Modern V8 with auto transmission
The 1948-1953 Chevrolet Series 3100 half-ton pickups benefited from a redesign that took Chevy trucks into a new era of comfort, convenience, and style.
Chevy's restyled "Advance-Design" trucks were introduced in 1947, well ahead of its first new postwar cars, and little changed in appearance through 1953. The basic intent was to provide more room and comfort for occupants.
All Advance-Design pickups had a new bench seat accommodating three persons, instead of the old separate seats, and for the first time the seat was adjustable for leg reach.
The cab, described as "Unisteel Battleship" construction, was larger in every direction. New extra-wide doors swung open on concealed hinges and extended down to cover the sills. Glass area grew considerably via a wider windshield, side windows, and backlight -- Chevy called the result "Observation Car Vision."
As you can see this pickup is no ‘show queen’. The finish was provided by Mother Nature and the ‘Rat’ look is a lot harder to create than you might think. Anyone can make a concours pickup, but a patina like this truck enjoys is unique and I believe suits a rugged work-horse. There of course are the other benefits like not having to worry about a shopping trolley acquaintance.
Despite it’s exterior, this truck has been given a lot of love inside and underneath. The interior has been completely re-upholstered with the seat having undergone a rebuild with new materials making for a really comfy ride.
A weekend was spent under the truck with a professional rust-proof gun and this baby has no holes and will never have any holes in my lifetime.
The engine is a new V8 with auto transmission. It really does shift, and handles surprisingly well for such a large vehicle.
The axles are from a Mustang so the modern running gear keeps her behaving well on the road, and the disc brakes are a must for modern traffic.
A well hidden powerful stereo has been installed operated via remote control.
The truck is bagged on all corners and the compressor sits under the rear deck. This work was done Stateside and has been done very well with all pipework in Copper.
I have replaced the front headlamps for Halogen units which really help at night.

With power steering and power brakes, this truck has a very modern driving feel. The V8 means it can hold its own against an Audi or other German offerings. I take full advantage of the truck status and this is 'go to' vehicle for trips to Tesco and the local tip. The automatic transmission obviously makes for a very relaxed driven the torque of the V8 flattens out the steepest of hills on the island.
