60 Mercedes 190SL
CC 1884
Electrics 12V
13’10” x 6’
The beautiful Mercedes 190 SL is a two door convertible launched in 1955. Built on a shortened saloon platform, the styling and engineering of the car is inspired from the iconic 300 SL. Powered by a peppy twin carb 4 cylinder straight engine which was derived from the 6 cylinder 300SL, this vehicle provides the driver a most enjoyable ride.
This particular car is beautifully presented in an original Mercedes colour (Paintwork DB code 190 Graphite Grey) beautifully complimented by a deep Red leather (Upholstery DB code 1074 MB-Tex red) interior.
With build quality that is incomparable with contemporary English and Italian offerings, the 190SL is a perfect companion for a crisp winter drive or a summer touring holiday.
This car underwent a two-year complete bare-metal body restoration by a Mercedes specialist. The cost of the recent restoration was in excess of £20,000.
The car had a brand new cylinder head from Mercedes in 2010.
These cars can now sell for in excess of £80,000.
This car is a RHD having been imported from South Africa, which make it very desirable in the UK.
Mechanically this car is perfect, and starts and runs really well. These cars are really nice to drive, but they are not performance cars. You should expect to cruise at 60mph on the motorway and you won’t be beating too many people away from the lights
I do have a hardtop for this car, but it needs restoration. I haven’t bothered, because I only really use this car when I can put the top down.
I have a spare bonnet, boot and doors as I picked them up cheap a few years ago.
If you are looking for a tremendously well-built car that you don’t have to do a thing that you can have some fun with and almost certainly see appreciate in value, then this would be perfect. I would not recommend parking this car outside, or trying to use it in the winter.
