Porsche Speedster 356 Replica
Reg No: KMW 94F (UK Registered 1967)
Volkswagen Beetle chassis
Stunning In Grey/Gold with Tan Leather Interior, beautifully built, Chrome Wheels and Moon Hub Caps with White Wall new tyres, German Square weave Carpet, period replica dials, all Porsche Badges, Completely rebuilt engine and box, new hood, all new brakes.
This Porsche might not be original, but it's an exact replica with a long-lasting and hassle-free GRP body that will outlive us all. I have original 60's Corvettes, Gordon Keeble and a Daimler Dart all of which left the factory with fibreglass body shells so I don't regard this as inferior. When I drive this car, I enjoy it just as much as it was the real thing except I don't drive around in fear of every pothole nervous about damaging my life savings. This car is to be used and enjoyed, but be prepared for scores of people wanting to take photos of the car, asking a zillion questions and ferociously waving at you.
This car was literally hand-built apart from the floorpans and chassis which are original VW, which is why the car is in effect a 1967 Volkswagen. A lot of time was dedicated to the superior build quality and high-end finish. It has a lovely metallic grey finish with a leather tan interior trim. It has a sporty 1600cc engine,
I'm 6'1" and I don't even need to push the seat all the way back. It drives very much like a modern car with good brakes and a responsive accelerator. The reality is, this will only ever be a second-car, because it's not suitable for anything other than a summer's day. Yes, it has a hood, but it's far from water-tight - that's just how they were! There are GRP hardtops available, but what's the point?
The Speedster has a soft top, but this can be removed with two bolts. I generally leave it off the car as I only use the car on sunny days.
The car drives really well and is spritely and goes through the gears with ease. You can't go very far before people are taking pics of the car, so it's not for you shy-types.
I bought the car from https://www.rindtvehicledesign.com/ in 2019. I own a number of classic cars and a couple of original 356A's. I wanted something that was reliable, fun and I wouldn't be paranoid about leaving it in a car park. I looked at a handful of replicas and most were put together badly with dubious levels of finish. I have no idea who the original builder was, but when I bought the car, I went through all the mechanics and running gear - everything was in good order with no oil leaks or squeaks etc. This is a car you can jump in and drive anywhere with basic mechanics and terrific parts supply.
I haven't driven this car much, but on the occasions I have taken it out it has been an absolute joy. I have over 30 classic cars and I am advertising a number of them to reduce the collection. I will keep the cars that don't sell.
There is nothing about this car I would change, I would not have a radio as it's just something else to worry about when you park up.
I did swap out the steering wheel and the wooden one is not available to swap back.
I can arrange viewing in Park Royal London.
